the pretenders

Have you ever pretended to be someone you are not? Do you sometimes mask your real feelings – even towards God? Last Sunday, 4 July we started a new message series called “The Pretenders”. In this eight week series, we will discuss several Psalms and discover the importance of approaching God with honesty, putting down our masks and stop pretending.

In life we cry out to God in times of hardship, fear, pain and suffering but we also cry out to God in joy and thanksgiving. This series explores those moments in life when we cry out to God. Join us this summer in Thousand Hills and …. come as you are!

Summer has started and Thousand Hills will have a service every Sunday morning during the summer.

Our summer message series is called The Pretenders and we are discovering the importance of approaching God with honesty and putting down our masks. Join us this summer in Thousand Hills and … come as you are!

Children from 6-12 years are invited to stay with us in the sanctuary for the worship, when they will get a signal to join their own groups.

Toys for Nigerian children

In a few weeks the Irete family, who have served our church as elders for the last year will be returning to Nigeria. Patience Irete would like to collect some toys to give to the children’s department in her church in Nigeria. You can donate small toys like colouring books, puzzles, play dough and dolls (please do not gift wrap them).

Patience will be at a small table in the sanctuary this Sunday and the following Sunday. Let’s support Patience by giving abundantly.

It starts with One

Last Sunday we completed the message series called “It Starts with One”. In this message series we will discussed the first six chapters of the book of Acts.

This book describes how the whole Christian movement, which now counts over 2 billion adherents, started with One – Jesus Christ. Even though Jesus ascended into heaven, He was still changing lives – and He still does today! In Acts we join Jesus’ initial followers as they embark on a journey to spread the message of Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit. This series will surely be a great inspiration for you.

Mosaic is sailing

On Sunday 4 July Mosaic will be celebrating the end of another successful season by going sailing on the Loosdrechtse Plassen. After having built up a good appetite on the water, there will be a BBQ at Lage Vuursche.

We need some help with the various activities such as getting everybody to and from the various places and helping set-up the BBQ so if you would like to help please contact us by emailing Jochem.

New core values

Over the last few months we have been working on a new vision, mission and core values. They are based on the old vision and core values, but rephrased in newer, clearer and better wording. Soon you will see the new vision and core values on a banner near the stage.

Our new vision:
To be a life-giving church that loves God, loves people and impacts lives for Jesus.

Our new core values:
Exalt – because God deserves all the glory
Connect – because we are the body of Christ
Grow – because God has great plans for us all
Reach – because the world needs God’s love and grace
Serve – because Jesus came to serve

Connect – next seminar on 12 September

On Sunday 13 June we had the first Connect – membership explained seminar. This seminar allows you to 1) better understand the vision and values of the church, 2) more effectively connect with the church family so that it will truly become your church home and 3) find your place of service in Thousand Hills.

We expect everybody who wants to be a member of the church to attend this seminar. Our current members are also expected to attend it before the end of the year if they want to see their membership continued in 2011.

This year on 12 September and 28 November, there will be two more opportunities to attend the seminar. It runs from 12.45-14.45 and in future child care will be provided. It is of vital importance that you attend one of these seminars, so please make plans to attend one of them.

Elder nominations

On 13 June we will have an elder nominations round during the Sunday service. You will have the opportunity to nominate between one and 12 people as elders. Out of the people with the most nominations, new elders will be selected. Elders in Thousand Hills are those who help create a positive spiritual climate within the church. Their main functions are: providing a prayer shield for the pastoral team and the local church, counselling and praying for the sick.
