On Sunday, 2 June, Greg will be at Thousand Hills again to preach another inspiring and encouraging message. He will speak in both services. Don’t miss this opportunity to listen to this man who has helped inspire the Thousand Hills vision. And… bring a friend!

Greg lives in the US, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and is married to Debbie. They have four children and 9 grandchildren. Greg is the Lead Pastor of Seacoast Church, a church with 13 locations in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. Each weekend they run close to 40 services in all these locations.

He is also the President of the Association of Related Churches (ARC), a very innovative relational American church planting network that is now influencing the whole world. Thousand Hills is one of the first European Churches that is part of ARC.

If you’re a leader, pastor or church planter, you may also find the All Access Exchange interesting on June 6 with Greg Surratt, Matt Fry and Peter Haas.

We have a lot to be thankful for so we will be looking back at what God has done in and through us the past seven years. We will be baptising at least 16 people in our brand new built-in baptism pool. These people have decided to follow Jesus and were ready for the next step in their walk of faith. We will also be celebrating the completion of the Sanctuary make-over and collect the first Heart for the House offering.

Bring your friends and family and celebrate this special day together with the Thousand Hills family and enjoy the special treats at the coffee time!

Thousand Hills’ vision will always be bigger than our finances. That’s a good thing. But it is also a challenging thing. That means we don’t only need vision… we need faith in a God who can do “immeasurably more than all we askor imagine” (Eph.3:20).

As people who have made Thousand Hills their home, we have the privilege of partnering with others in our church to invest in projects that cannot be covered out of our normal operations budget. For those projects we will be doing a Heart for the House campaign in 2013.

The focus of Heart for the House in 2013 will be on the renovation of our building – both on the inside and on the outside – as well as toward the reduction of our debt. Through Heart for the House we want to raise a minimum of €50,000 above and beyond the regular tithes and offerings the church receives, which cover our normal operational budget.

Why do we invest in bricks?
Why do we invest in bricks when we believe church should be all about building people? Every weekend we have visitors come through our doors who may not have attended church before and they have expectations of what a church should look like. As we read in 1 Samuel 16 “people judge by outward appearances,” so a poor quality building could be a big distraction to visitors. Our renovations, while not at all excessive, are aimed at making the building a pleasant and welcoming place for everyone who enters. Our building will for many first-time visitors be the first step in helping them live the God-first life.

Also, there is another reason for the big push we’re giving now. We started using the Zuiderkerk in 2006 and at that point the plan was still that it would be demolished and that the area would be redeveloped. So we didn’t feel it was wise stewardship to do any major investments in the building. In June last year we became the owners of the building, so now we are responsible to deal with years of backlog in maintenance. And while we are doing that, we will make sure the building will look more attractive and will suit our needs better.

How does the Heart for the House offering work?
If Thousand Hills is your church home, how can you get involved in Heart for the House? Initially we would like you to pray and ask God for guidance about how you can participate in this offering. Then in the spring you will be given an opportunity to participate, either by giving a one-time gift or by starting extra monthly support towards Heart for the House. Later in the year you will have another opportunity to jump in and be a part of this special offering.

If you feel the Lord is calling you to participate in Heart for the House above and beyond your regular giving, you can fill in the pledge form (find it below) and drop it in an offering box or offering bag the next Sunday after you make your decision.

Is Heart for the House only about our house?
As a church we fervently believe in putting God first in all areas of our lives, including our finances. That’s why we believe in tithing – setting aside the first and the best of our finances as an act of worship to God. So we want to practice that same principle with the proceeds of the Heart for the House offering. Therefore we’ll commit 10% of the total offering to missions projects around the world. We want to build God’s house, not our house!

A harvest of generosity
As you prepare for the Heart for the House offering, here is a great passage that will inspire you to know that it is God you are giving to and that he is the one who will provide for you when you give generously and sacrificially:

Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. As the Scriptures say, “They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”

For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. (2 Corinthians 9:6-11 NLT)

That’s my prayer for you as you consider participating in Heart for the House: that God will provide for you, increase your resources and produce a great harvest of generosity in you.

Let’s change the world for Jesus!

‘Heart for the House’ 2013

Waarom investeren we in stenen?

Hoe werkt de ‘Heart for the House’ inzameling?

Gaat ‘Heart for the House’ alleen over ons huis?

This is an important and biblical way to demonstrate your belief in Jesus and His resurrection, and that you want to live in His way from now on.

Our next baptism services will be on May 26th. Come to a Q&A session on May 7th at 19.30 to have all your questions answered! If you are interested, please contact Koen.

A second U.S. team will be coming over and will help us to renovate the welcome and coffee area.

During this time we will:
* create a new flat floor
* create a coffee bar look by putting in cabinets on wheels instead of the tables
* lay carpet on the new floor and also on the floor of the stage

Let Dar know that you’ll be coming in or just come and see what you can do in one of the following areas:

* Food preparing – help Dar prepare lunch, dinner and break food for all volunteers
* Carpet laying
* Painting
* Cleaning on Friday and Saturday

Let’s do this together!
